Decided on the Head, still undecided on the Cab!

Sign in to disble this ad
Ok so i started a thread a few weeks back saying i had £600 approx ($910), to spend. So i have now decided on the Amp head i will get:
Ashdown MAG 300 Head (seems the best option as ai use an ashdown already)

Reason for upgrading my 1x15 180w ashdown is that my two guitarists in my band are both using 2x12 100w combos, very loud. My amp is not really competing with them, at practise they have to turn down a considerable amount. Also at gigs the amp just isnt big enough for some of the larger venues we are now playing.

So the MAG head is around £250-£300 so lets say you guys have £350 to tell me what Cab to get and why

Ive had a few ideas already:
Ashdown ABM 2x10 CAB (350w at 8ohms) - £300 ($450)
GK RBX 2x10 CAB (400w at 8ohms) - £370 ($550)
Fender Bassman 4x10 CAB (350w at 8ohms) - £370 ($550)

Ok:
I need an amp which i can carry and put in my very small car.
I dont mind having a combo option but only under £600.
Can you post links of your suggestions

If you need louder volumes as your first post suggests, get a 410. A 410 will move far more air than a 210 which is probably why it is one the (if not "the") most popular configuration.

I know crap about the cabs you specifically mentioned. GK makes a decent 410 that is fairly compact. If that brand is an option for you, you might want to investigate that.

Competing with guitarists is always a losing battle. If they won't play as an ensemble, then the band simply sucks.

You will never be able to increase your volume enough to compete. For one thing, human ears are 100x more sensitive in the guitar frequencies. Now, if you were playing for blue whales, they'd hear the bass much better.

Hmmm, yer i was looking at the lower range GK but what is the quality like of them. Reason for the cabs mentioned above is that they are like the top range ones and if im spending this sort of money i need one of those
