Hey guys.

I'm after some opinions as to which of these 3 heads I should get to compliment my current setup of an SWR 2x10 and an SWR 1x15.

GK 1001RB
Eden WT550
Ashdown EVOIII

I'm truly at a loss as I've had an SWR head for some time and I'm familar with the brand but it's just no longer the sound I desire. I'm wanting a sounds thats a little bit warmer and organic. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers

Zac

I'd go for the GK or the Eden, especially if you'll be gigging the rig. The GK's stock voicing is surprisingly warm (with the controls set "flat" ), but you wouldn't go wrong with the Eden either.

If you simply want more warmth and organic tone from the SWR, bypass the Aural Enhance circuit. It's a simple, cheap mod that will breath new and different life into the SWR.

Just a thought...

Personally, I have an SWR Bass 350 (with said mod) and a GK1001RB-II, as well as an Epifani UL502. The 502 is the warmest of the bunch (and my #1), but the SWR with the mod and a little bass rolled in is a lot more like the 502 than the GK. The GK is relatively bright, powerful, punchy, and loud.

Interesting. Another bassist and I had a bunch of our gear here one day and (set flat) we ranked some heads in warmth, just for fun. Cabs used were Warwick 211 Pro, Aguilar 1x12 and Avatar 2x10:

1) Eden WT800A
2) GK 1001RB-II
3) Eden WT405
4) SWR 400
5) Kustom Groove 1200

Again, that's with the controls set flat. We turned off the enhance controls on the heads that had them, as well. All these amps are voiced, so there's a lot of adjustment you can do to the way they sound. Next time we might set them all up for flattest response and see how they compare.
