Decision time: Need Advice! [Ampeg Content]

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys.

I need some advice.
I have a chance to buy a SVT3 Pro and a 410HLF for $1100.
Here's my question, do I go for that.. Or do I try and pick up the 410HLF for $450 and go and order a PF500?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Yeah, I don't think both for $1100 used is such a great deal - tbh, unless it's like brand new, $450 used for the 410 isn't that great, either... If you can get the cab for $400 or less, and spend the rest on a better head, that would be better, IMO...

He says the rig is 2 years old.. Something like this doesn't come up much around here.

+1 on the price being too high. In my case I sold locally
(2) 410HLF cabs on craig's List for under $350 each and they were in near new condition (one had the Tags still on) . As far as heads go shop around and get what you want "new"(GC or one of the other Mega's) and you shouldn't pay much more that $699 any make. Its like a new car you drive it around the block and its "used"...Good luck.................

Ha, you American's have no idea how good you have it with prices, that would be a steal here! I paid nearly $2k for my SVT3-PRO head alone! As for the PF500, I A/B'ed that with the 3PRO before deciding which to buy and the SVT won it by a long shot (not to say the PF was bad, it still sounded great and is a really cool little amp IMO, but it couldn't match the tone of the 3PRO).

These are Canadian prices we're talking about here. Just to make you all aware. Personally, I like both but I like the PF500 better, but there are many who swear by the amps with the big iron transformers, so that's really a judgment call.

Yes, sorry I forgot to mention.. Canadian prices, plus I live in New Brunswick, not exactly a used gear hotspot. So New the SVT3 and the 410HLF would set me back nearly $2000.
Still torn.. How's the SVT3 in terms of reliability?

i personally hated my SVT 3 Pro, never seemed to have the same power as other 500-600 watt heads...if i were you i would monitor used.guitarcenter.com. Also if its only 2 years old, none of those products are american made anymore, they shipped there production off shores about 3 years ago or so.

Check used.guitarcenter.com and look for aguilar, i feel that aguilar is a solid comparison to ampeg tone, but it alot more guts and flexibility, also its all American Made.

I had a GS410 shipping from texas to me for $35.00, so usually shipping isn't so bad, I live in CT to.

3 Pro is very reliable, and despite the above post claiming it's underpowered, puts out every bit of power Ampeg tells you it puts out. People mistake the input light for a clip light, and then turn the gain down too low when they see the light flashing, when in fact that light should be on pretty steadily and bright when you play.

I'd love a GS410. Right now I'm try to keep it at $1000 or under though.
