Definative Answer on cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an ashdown little giant 1000w bass head
and want to get a cab.

Do i get a 4ohm or 8ohm, i've seen all sorts of stuff about power and watts being lowered if you get an 8ohm cab. But which is generally better in the long run?

8 ohm for flexibility. The 4 ohm may let your amp send more wattage down the pipe, but, it doesn't buy you anything worthwhile, and limits your future cab buying ability.

8 ohms is better. You can expand in the future if you need more volume. Using a 4 ohm single cab over an 8 ohm version seems like a good way to get more volume but in practice it just doesn't do anything for you. BTW good luck getting a definitive response from a crowd!

Since it has two independent 4 ohm minimum rated power amps you'd use one four ohm cab or two eight ohm cabs per channel for maximum output. This requires advance planning of future expansion needs.
