So, this isn't a which is better type of thing...intrinsically, at least. I was thinking about this from a design standpoint. Most bass players, at some time or another, "go" for that sealed cabinet sound and gravitate to the Ampeg 810 as the de facto standard. I have heard similar great things about the Peavey VB810 and NV610 as sealed cab contenders. Looking at them, we see that both 8x10's have four 2x10 sealed chambers while (this is a guess judging by appearance) the 6x10 design is an all one chamber layout. I am thinking that the 8x10 design is probably a legacy concern with bracing and that the four 2x10 design was more necessity than engineering. With that said, have there been other sealed designs with all 8 speakers in one chamber with just more rational bracing? Is there a real advantaged to the separate chambers? If so, how is it that nearly unanimous praise goes out to JimB for the NV610? Thoughts from anyone willing to engage?
