A-Designs REDDI Tube DI

Sign in to disble this ad
I was listening to some Pre-Amps at basstasters, and I'm totally digging the tone of the A-Designs REDDI Tube DI.

Anyone here using this thing? If so, what's your opinion, and can this be used to gig say with a power amp, but also allow DI to the house sound? I only see one output, so not sure how that would all work if it even can.

EDIT: I posted before searching, and found the answer here on TB in regards to the DI. Trying to delete this thread, but can't find that option....

Not designed to drive a power amp. It is really just best understood as a DI, with minimal gain that you can use to increase the tube saturation for a slightly different tone.

There is a 'Thru' jack that sends the uncoloured tone to an amp as well as an XLR out that you'd send to a mixing board (with onboard pres).

Ok, too bad though. I wish they had a rack mount, 1-space that would act as a Pre as well. Great tone IMO - Was considering the Aguilar DB659, but after hearing that one, I changed my mind.

If you have the cash, the A-Designs Pacifica is a killer 1U dual-channel preamp with a vibe in the same *ballpark*. I would look into a legit mic pre/DI if you're wanting to run with a poweramp. Plus, more versatility if you've got a project studio.

+1 The Pacifica is amazing...
There is a way to rack mount TWO REDDIs,, contact Pete at A-Design.. He has a way to do it,,, maybe one will also work in the rack option

PS it is the finest DI that i have ever used, bought and played.. I take it everywhere. And i have played them all... from every passive DI to every esoteric DI on the planet.. you name it.. Love my REDDI...

I can contest to the amazingness of the REDDI. I picked one up about 2 months ago, and have taken it on 2 tours and 5 studio sessions; each time I have had the FOH guys and recording engineers going gaga over my tone. It's a perfect compliment to you bass tone with just the right amount of color and tube saturation. I highly recommend it. If you're looking for an A-Designs rig, try their 500 series pre and EQ combination. I was just down at their factory early this morning and I was playing on their stuff for a few hours. I loved the EM-Gold pre matched with the EM-PEQ. Great sound. This is actually what Reggi Hamilton has been using for a few years, so go figure

And Peter is an amazing fellow; give him a call and he'll help you find what you're looking for. Tell him Jayme sent you.

Peter is Awesome.. I have the EM500 Gold..
The REDDI going into that and then protools is about as good as it gets... I need to get to the factory one day.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I've read a few of the other threads, and I talked myself out of picking up one of these.

Although it is a very nice piece and love the tone, it just doesn't fit my needs. I don't have a home studio to take advantage of this, and to make it work in a live setting I'd have to get more complicated than I want.

Simplicity is what I'm looking for, and unfortunately for live gigs, the REDDI DI is not it

if you want something for live work, see if you can lay your hands on either an svp cl pre or a low end true voice pre. the svp cl is the same pre as a vintage svt basically, and the true voice is a really nice b-15 inspired preamp. unfortunately they're both not being made anymore, but can be found used occasionally.

or you can cheap out like i did and just get a vt bass deluxe. for live work you can't beat it for the b-15 sound. maybe in the studio i'd use a reddi but for live, the vt and vt deluxe kills. only thing about the vt is no di, but www.putnamguitars.com can add one for you.

Try a Radial JDI. There's a thread here comparing the two and the audio clips - not perfect but what can you do online - show virtually no difference in tone.
