DI out to instrument input

I have a question about my SWR SM-400s DI out...How do I convert the signal so that it will be able to plug into the instrument input of my Kustom Challenger bass combo.

At present my setup consists of an SWR Baby Blue head with a 1/4 inch line output jack to the challenger. Works and sounds quite good in my opinion. Of course the baby blue powers a wm 15t cab on its own.

The 400s is in the shop at present getting a new power switch and is very new to me so I am not familar about it at all. I have not noticed a 1/4 inch line out on it.

The kustom is a very old combo from 1970 and works quite well for its age. The rig is for practice in my cave.

I don't get it. Why plug a line level preamp out into an instrument level second preamp in?

I am running two amps at the same time. The SWR Baby blue gain preamp is the ultimate volume for both. The Kustom is so old it is limited in its patch options so this is the only way to do the setup that I see. That is the crux, limited patch capabilities for the kustom. It was built in Chanute, KS in 1970. Suprisingly, to my ears it works. My practice space is a long room about 35-40 feet with the swr workingmans 15t cab on one end and the kustom combo on the other.

Another reason for the setup is I don't want to let my gear sit idle, in other words I can use the old Combo and not just look at the Black Tuck and Roll upholstery on it. I suppose if a musician friend was over and jamming the blues he could have his own volume control for the bass at whichever end of the room he would be set up.

Hi Jim, sounds like you are a graduate of North Texas State if you put Denton in your list. Bass instructor at the Univ of Nebraska in the 80's was from there...Rusty White. I played w/ a few graduates from North Texas State as walk on keyboard players in a traveling swing band in the early 90's. We picked up players from whatever region of the country we were traveling.

Using my rudimentary construction survey pacing measurment I'll have to amend the distance between combo and cab at 25 feet. Sorry about the discrepancy.
