Diagnosing a mystery buzz/hiss

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm playing a gig this Saturday, but the last time I played this room I had a mystery buzz/hiss (It was months ago-can't remember which). I do get an occasional faint buzz in my rig, but nothing like what I experienced in this room.

My rig is as follows: Sukop > Eden 550 head > 2x10 Bergantino Cabinet w tweeter. The sound check is fairly short, and I'm trying to compile a checklist of ways to diagnose the problem on the fly:

- hit the ground lift (didn't work last time)
- Dial down the built in compressor in the head (I usually keep it at 2 'O clock)

Is there anything else that I can try? If the probem is a bad AC current in the club (I have heard other bass players complain about the same problem) what what be the best solution?

Thanks in advance.

Is it only in that room and no where else?

If so, that place doesn't have proper earth grounding (uneducated guess).

I've had some small problems with my setup in the past, but I'm thinking that this problem has more to do with the wiring in the venue. However, not everything in the band is buzzing, just my bass.

Are there any other precautions I can take to avoid a ground buzz in a place with otherwise bad wiring?
