Difference between Ashdown MAG and ABM cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone - I currently have a MAG410T(410, 8 ohm, 450 watts RMS), it doesn't quite have the sound I'm looking for and with a bit of discussion on this forum I understand why. Plus at high volumes the cab starts farting a little right about the level I play in a metal band, so I have decided I will go with something with more headroom as well.
My choice I think is gonna be the ABM 610. 4 ohm, 800 watts RMS.
Just wondering what peoples opinions are on the differences tonally in these cabs, plus will the 4 ohm cab make much of a difference volume wise. The fact it has 2 extra speaker for a start leads me to believe yes, plus it will run the head at it minimum impedance.
Thanks everyone.

If you don't like the sound of your MAG, I'm not sure you will like the sound of ABM.

If the issue would be only volume, I would recommend adding another MAG 4x10" perhaps. If you also don't like the sound, I would look for other brands.

Is the Ashdown sound too "hairy" for you and you need something clearer?

As you have "metal bassist" in your sig, I would recommend checking out Warwick WCA611 if you still can find one (they are not produced anymore since this year). I owned one for a short period (wanted something smaller for transportation issues) - heck of a cabinet and handles a lot of power without a cough. You can hear (and feel) yourself very well.

Thanks for the info Sten. I will have the chance to check out the Ashdown cab, and yeah volume is my biggest issue. Overall tone not so much. However...
Now that you have mentioned the Warwick cab a distributor here has a good deal going on an ex demo model. I wont be able to try it first but may look into this if I try the Ashdown and it doesn't suit.
Can you or anyone describe the tonal differences in the MAG and ABM cabs?
