Differences between Eden 4x10's?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey y'all. I've played through a few Eden 4x10XLT's when they were provided as backlines at festivals and gigs and I've been totally in love with them since. I've been watching the used ads in my town for one to come along and anxiously waiting. Someone has just listed an Eden d410t for a decent price and I was wondering how close it is tone-wise to the XLT. I can see the differences in the stats on the Eden site, but that doesn't really tell me what the tone will be like. Has anyone ever tried them side by side or have any experience with them?

Just for reference, I'm currently using and have been for a long time now an Ampeg 410HLF and it's great, but I was blown away with the definition in the low mids and the much better power efficiency of the Eden 410XLT.

Thanks in advance!

The D410T is an earlier design which handles less power, has a different tonality, and less bass response (rolls off considerably higher). Somewhat similar to the earlier SWR Goliath cabinets. It doesn't have the same low midrange focus as the XLT. BTW, Ampeg appears to be more honest with their specifications, so don't take those Eden sensitivity specs too seriously.

Cool, thanks. I think I'll be holding off then until an XLT appears. I don't really have an issue with the HLF, so it will do for now. I don't really take specs too seriously, I care more about what it actually sounds like.

FWIW, might want to try it out and see if you like it. Just bear in mind that it won't sound the same as the XLT.

If you have been using xlt's at festivals, then you may not have picked them up. They weigh 98 lbs! I had one for a while, and grew to dread moving it. I decided that I did not like the sound enough to deal with it, and have never looked back.

hey mark, I have owned both and the XLT is a much better cabinet.

I found the T sounded deeper but didn't handle near the same power and didn't sound near as... aggressive as the XLT.

I might be thinking about getting rid of my XLT in the near future.

Both the XLT and the T are great cabs
I wouldn't however buy a T just upon an experience with a XLT, because they're quite different.

the T is smoother than the very aggressive XLT
there is less of a lo-mid bump in the T
but I think the T goes about as low as the XLT
the XLT just sound less deep (IMO) because of the lo-mid bump masking the low

I do get more usable gig volume out of an XLT even with the same power, plus the XLT also handles more power

if volume is not a concern, I like my T better
