Distortion thru cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
I take it this is the correct forum....I am getting distortion thru my current set up.bothe when playing and adjust input/output levels thru the head.
I have an Ashdown ABM 300W head and 1 4x10 & 1 1x15 Ahdown MAG cabs...I recently upgraded the head from a MAG 300.
Maybe I am not setting the levels correctly or.....?
I play Precisions, thanks for any tips/help

or, maybe you're using your eq improperly. Start by setting the input gain, with everything else flat, (usually all knobs at noon, but check your manual). Master volume way down. Pull up the gain until it starts to clip, then back off. Use the Master to set the volume, use eq sparingly. Excessive low end will kill your speakers. Give that a try, and see how that works out.

Distortion

Thanks Ricken I'll give that a go...can you clarify 'excessive low end' to a layman like myself.I am only getting back into playing after many many moons away from it...then it was bass middle and treble you had to fiddle with!

Sure, excessive depends on alot of things, but essentially, if you're boosting the lows more than a little, it *could* be enough to cause problems. Best bet is to run the amp with the eq flat, no cut, no boost, and if that doesn't sound great, (I judge an amp by how it sounds flat), make very small adjustments. Cranking ANY eq knobs is usually a recipe for yuk, mud, or hiss. Just run flat, and go easy.
