I have just recently picked up a nice '70 blueline svt But, I only have an 8 ohm cab, and seeing that svt's dont run at 8, I need a new cab! I've been thinking about just biting the bullet and getting an 8x10 seeing as I have the transportation and am not too too worried about weight (being 17), but I wouldn't mind not having to haul a fridge around if theres a way to get the same tone as a fridge but in a 4x10 format. Now to top all this off, all my $$$ went into said lovely new SVT So i'm thinking of going DIY to save some cash, and since I can't find a single *sealed* 4 ohm 4x10 cab. Does anybody have the schematics or measurements needed to build a homebrew ampeg mini-fridge? Thanks all |

Cabs are pretty simple if you want a sealed cab (like the fridge) make a box half that size and mount your drivers or shop for a used 4-10 it might be cheaper.
4-4ohm drivers need to be wired in a series parallel arrangement, check the web this is easy to find.
4-16 ohm drivers need to be wired straight parallel to achieve 4 ohms.
Either impedance will work just as well but it is just as important to find "bass guitar" drivers, home stereo or guitar drivers will fart out on you.
4-8 ohm drivers can NOT be wired for a 4 ohm total load. |

I'm pretty sure Welcome to Fliptops -- Parts for Ampeg and other Vintage Amp Lovers can build you a 4 ohm sealed 410.
Or you could hold off till NAMM and see what's coming down the pike for new Ampeg cabs. Not that I know anything, but I've heard rumors...

Or;
What kind of cab do you have now? Why cant you add another one just like it?
Yeah DIY will only get you spending more than you would have just buying used. |

Ampeg SVT Blueline Club, 68 to early 70's.
Use your 8 ohm cab for now, as long as you don't do full day gigs at full volume it'll be fine, this will give you time to find a nice 4 ohm cab. I used to gig with a 410 and I always needed help lifting it, now I have an 810AV i can move it by myself and it easily tips into my Volvo estate, it's the SVT I need help with though.
