DIY: Bass Pre Amps (Where to begin)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all. I'm new to the forums. I'm glad to see the congregation of ze bass. Anywho, I'm really interested in learning how to build preamps / do mods however I don't know where to begin. Like, where can I learn to read schematics? What tools do I need? Should i start with a simple preamp kit? Any and all advice accepted.

PS: Thanks in advance. =]

If you don't have any experience with electronics you are better off starting with a kit. You can learn to solder easily and be more likely to keep your interest level up if you can build a kit that works when you are finished.

Beavisaudio.com has a ton of information. There is a thread still going on here where people are building preamps right now. Do a search and you can find a ton. Its always better to search for information then ask questions about what you don't understand. A question like how do I build a preamp is very broad. Do you want a pedal version, in bass version, or a rack mount style? Good luck with your endeavour

This one's super easy to build (especially if you buy the full kit) and sounds great. Also, work your way through the AMPs FAQ DIY resources for lots of ideas on books, online tutorials, and tooling for your shop.

Best of luck, and have fun!
