Do I need a Pre Amp??

Sign in to disble this ad
I have recently put together a rack to run my IEM's which will also run a powered 12"/ horn PA cab as a stage monitor.

The signal chain is:

Line 6 XDS plus > Rack tuner (sabine) > Compressor (DBX266xl).

This then goes to my Rolls PM351 mixer which combines the PA Mains signal which then goes to the IEM via the other channel of the dbx266xl (with an eq in the side chain)

My question is: Do I need to run a Preamp between the rack tuner and the compressor to get the most out of this set up?

I am also running the powered cab from the 2nd output of the compressor.

I was thinking of a Presonus Tube Pre. Or would I just be better of running presonus EQ3b Parametric eq or something else?

Any insight is appreciated.
