Do I need something smaller?

I have an 8x10 cabinet.
Is that too big to lug around on a first little tour?
Or too big for small venues?

Do I need to invest in a small cabinet, or maybe a combo?

Or can I slap an 8x10 in a coffee shop?

If you play out a lot and many of those calls don't require anything close to the full-on fridge, you'll figure it out quickly enough.

The smallest cabs I ever used live were on small venue tours. My usual 4x10 / 1x15 rig took up way too much room in the van, and when it really came down to it I was able to get by just fine with an Eden 2x10.

You can probably FIT it in almost any venue you might play somehow, it's just whether you WANT to.

I played one gig with an SVT where the stage was narrow and (sort of) deep, but still really small: we laid the fridge down in the back sideways, put a guitar amp on each end of it, and set the drummer up right in front of them. He had a blast. We did fine. I'd have been happier with a good single 15.

If someone is carrying it around you you, why not? But I've found that any room my cab can't fill will just put me through the PA and that will handle the extra required volume. No need to carry a refrigerator to gigs these days.

If the majority of the venues you'll be playing are smaller, you might get really tired lugging in a fridge and dodging the looks and comments of "dude do you really need that?"

I ditched my 8x10 for a 4x10 and haven't looked back.
