Do Mark Bass Amps all hiss ?

Sign in to disble this ad
As the thread title asks, are Mark Bass amps prone to a bit of excessive hiss ?

I'm in the market for a small amp, and whilst browsing various threads and user reviews I've noticed a few people mention the Mark Bass Amps being noisy compared to other competing products...

Any opinions on this would be much appreciated.

Nope... very quiet. I've been using a number of them for years. The class A/B amps (LMIII, etc.) are dead quiet. The class D models (F1, LM800, SD800, etc.) have a small amount of background hiss that can only be heard when you aren't playing. It is there though, so if you are using those heads to close-mic in the studio with a cab with a tweeter, it might be an issue.

However, the combo cabs with those piezo tweeters with no attenuator can amplify an upper frequency noise in your signal chain. I'd stay away from those (other than the Jeff Berlin, which has no tweeter).

To be honest I thought it would be very odd if they had a higher noise floor, but still got such good press.

I'm not able to try before buying, so I'm just trying to get an informed picture before throwing down the money.

Have a good weekend !

I have a TA 501. Hisses a little, but you'd never hear it in a playing situation. No worse than other amps I've used.

My LMTube (500 watt class A/B version) is completely silent... Well... From an unwanted noise perspective at least

Wow, I own two MB heads, the F1, and the TA 501, and have never crossed this problem. Of course, I don't crank the treble all the way to the right, but both of my heads are dead quiet.

Make sure you don't have any huge wall warts right by it or you can pick up some noise. Excessive hiss? Noise gate!
