Do you use the effect loop on your bass amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
Overtime it’s pretty common for the effect loop jacks on bass amps to get dirty/crusty and stop the bass amp from working right. Personally I don’t use the effect loop on amps so I don’t need it.

So my question is - how many of you use the effect loop on your bass amp?

I use a Carvin B1500, and use a compressor and sonic maximizer in the loop.

Never. I have tried every combination of my FX going in front and in the loop and I just prefer all of them going in front.

I'll revisit at some point, but I use 3 different amps (not at once) and I'm sure their loops all behave a little differently. I want my stuff to work the same in each one. Going in front usually allows that to happen for me.

I used the Send on my Gk MB200 into a power amp, when my preamp died. Saved my ass.

Hi-fi into an old tube amp

I run my Sansamp BDDI in the FX loop on my Bass 400. In this particular head, it does some sort of crucial tone/feel magic for me... mix of greater tube compression effect, harshness/clank smoothing out into OD. After years of doing it like this (and experiencing a significant clean output difference from this head), I noticed that I had it running on Line which I think provides a clean boost. When I am doing metal stuff, I run my other effects in the loop as well.

For the smoother stuff I am doing right now, I run my BDDI and effects in front (I don't usually use any) and it sounds/acts totally different.

I have only used the effects loop a few times, trying the FMR audio RNC compressor in it, which I never bonded for my bass rig.

I currently run my Diamond compressor out front.

I often use the FX send as an unbalanced line out; If I do use the FX return, it is usually to use the power amp section of my amp with my LA-610 Mk II.

As a traditional loop, no.

To be clear, the fx loop on the back of most bass amps is a "line level" loop- meaning, meant for devices that put out line level signals. Stomp boxes, and in fact, most all pedal fx devices, are "instrument level", and therefore meant to be run in the front end of the amp, with your bass. Rack-mounted fx are line level, and those are what should be used in the amps fx loop.

I run my DI in the Effects Loop.. well sometimes..

Somedtimes I run the DI in the Pre-amp Send/Power-Amp return loop.
