does anyone make a cheap light practice speaker with no amp?

I've already got a Crate Power-block head so all I need is a very small speaker, just for practice. Something I could easily carry and use with the Crate head.

OR: Are there any combo amps for bass practice under 20 pounds??

When you say "practice," do you mean playing to music by yourself, or low-volume practice with a band?

I'm in New York City. I want to carry it on the subway and up and down stairs without a lot of fuss. It will be mostly for practicing by myself or in someone's small apartment with acoustic instruments and no PA. Minimal volume is all I need but a little bass tone would be nice. 6 or 8 inch speaker that can handle some moderate low end in a decent closed cab for bass should do it. I have now found a couple of possibilities from Berhinger and Peavy.

I use a cheap sub-woofer from one of those 5.1 surround sound systems. I put a 1/4 jack in the back and use it with my Crate Power-block. It think it is a 6 inch, 6 ohm, rear ported speaker. I have used it for practicing with guys playing acoustics. I have also used it in church.

I tried using one of those, but they can't handle too much power or volume....I know, he said low-volume, but what these can handle....it might be too low. (it's actually in my work truck being used as a sub behind my seat. It'll handle 25 watts OK, but my BX500 would kill it rather quickly)

A few weeks ago I tried searching for a 1x10, and didn't really come up with anything "new" in the market other than MarkBass, which offers a 1x6, 2x6, 1x12, 2x10....all in really tiny packages, but pretty pricey.

SWR used to make a 1x10 Working Pro cabinet, rated at 100 watts. I saw one on Craig's List last week in my area.

Epiphani and Genz Benz make a few:

It seems that many of the ore popular manufacturers have gone away from producing really small 1x** cabinets.

You can always try to make your own, too. There is a recent thread in the Amp section about building a 1x10.

But your best bet is to probably get a medium sized 1x12 with a Neo speaker, like the GK above.

but if new costs too much, like it does for me, you can scour CL and ebay. I found an older Avatar cube 1x12 locally for $180, with a new Eminence Deltalite Neo 12 in it. The cab is Super light.

You just described the Acoustic B20 perfectly. It is exactly what you want.
