Does anyone use a VT bass as their pre amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
Right now i am borrowing a 400rb and im very happy with it, at some point im going to need my own head. I already own a power amp. Does anyone use a vt as a pre amp? I also already own a v-twin pedal that i may add to the chain. The tone i'm going for is lots of mid and treble with some drive to it.

i do occasionally. it's got very sensitive knobs and they're not the easiest to adjust on the fly, but it sounds wonderful.

cool, i have a graphic eq i could put in front of it if necessary. I really like the sound of b-15's. I use one with a 70's p bass in school. now all i need to do is decide on a new speaker cab.

i run a VT Deluxe as my only preamp all the time.

pedalboard with VT Deluxe at the end -> QSC GX5 -> Aguilar GS112 x 2 + GS115.

it's a beast of a pedal.

Yup, I occasionally use that setup with my 15/6.

VT > Graphic eq > peavey DPC 1000.

Works very well, and sounds fantastic.

Yes.
I run mine into a 200w tube slave, set and forget.
You can't go wrong, and it's great to be able to send a signal from your pedalboard to FOH.

If I were to use the VT this way I'd want to get the Putnam Guitars speaker simulation off mod "speaker sim bypass mod"

all respect to mike and his mods, but i can't see buying a vt pedal only to defeat its best feature.

I run it as a straight preamp often, works great for me and is so small. It's knobs can be quite sensitive but once you figure out how to get what you are looking for from it it is very easy to use.

I do sometimes use it as an overdrive pedal as well but it can be difficult to get good grit from it without boosting the volume too much compared to your clean volume

+ 1 on this.
Just started running the VT into a Crown Microtech 1200 last week and it sounds awesome.

Well it is an on/off button

As usual, I'll take your word for it.

All day long. The VT, like the BDDI and P-Drive are pre-amps as well as DIs. I use my BDDI to do the same thing as these guys are doing with the VT and it works great.

I love it, I run it into my Ampeg b2re and it makes it sound like my 4-pro or at least my band thinks so at practice. It is what it is, light , portable, and easy to use.

I'll receive my VT from MF tomorrow. To use it as a preamp, should the cab simulation be disabled? If so, how?

I would recommend an EQ, I play a 5 string and found it very difficult to get a good tone out of it without the eq. But the tone I'm getting with it with a guitar tuned down to A is crushing.
