I found a sweet deal at GC for a used Ampeg SVT-410HLF. I'm definitely going to buy it.

But I've always had this persistent fear, every time I have bought a used cab: I'm afraid the previous owner replaced one or more of the original drivers with drivers of lesser quality.

I know it's probably irrational, but it still makes me uneasy. I know once I've gotten it I can open it up and look at the speakers for verification, but I still wonder: has this ever happened to any of you?

If you play through before you buy it, you should be able to tell if the drivers are blown. I have never had a problem with a used cab.

Make sure you bring a small flashlight so you can look at the speakers good.

Make sure there are no creases in the cones.

Can't say it never happens but it's rare. But always have them pop the grill so you can see the speakers before you buy.

I'm buying it online, so I can't really inspect it. The cab is selling for $300... which seems to good to be true for an SVT-410HLF. Would you guys take the risk?

May have happened more than once to me over the years, but one incident comes to mind. Got the used cab home, and got it apart to discover the baffle had been changed to fit the replacement (Dirt cheap, guitar) drivers. Fortunately it was from GC and they tok it back without any problems. Some other sap eventually bought it, guitar speakers and all.

Buying online makes me nervous unless there's a bulletproof return policy, with at least free shipping for the initial purchase so I'm not out too much for the priveledge of being scammed.
