I put my ear to the speaker, and it seems like the buzzing is coming from my 10" speaker in my Triad. I don't know what a broken speaker sounds like, but I think this is it.

Check where the cone meets the surround as well as the dust cap. Does the 10 look like it's moving back and forth a whole lot when you play? If that thing doesn't have a subchamber for the mid, it could be blown and is just flopping around reacting to pressure changes cause by the 15 moving. If I recall correctly, those Traid's weren't that good of a design for a 3way. Stuff like cutting corners on the crossover, not having filters where there should be, etc. It might not have a sub chamber for the 10. |

I'll check the cone things. It sounds awesome for rock, but it's rather annoying when I'm practicing jazz. Haha |

Ordering a new one, I know there were a few design flaws with the design and crossover, anything that could be fixed with speaker replacement and rewiring? I'm pretty good with circuits, so the labor of it isn't a problem.
What sort of speaker should I replace it with? I was thinking of going with some Neodymium to help with the weight of the brick enclosure.
Thanks! |

I decided to dig my old Triad out of the garage and clean it up after years of not seeing any action and I got the same sounds. I disconnected the 10" and found the 15" and the horn running fine so I'm left in the same boat as you, replace the 10" with a stock speaker or try to overcome the design flaws.
I found your thread by looking for a replacement 10". I'll let you know what I find; there are a number of old threads here that should help us.
