So, I got the call from my friend who plays drum in our band. You know... that call. The one where it starts off, "I hate to be the bearer of bad news", and plummets rapidly into "Your (Insert Equipment Name Here) _______." This time it turns out his dog confused my amp with a fire hydrant. Its an aguilar db410, and although I haven't gotten to chance to go over to my friends house and inspect/pick it up, he said it's fine. I had a soft case on it, and though my friend said that is ruined due to smell, the amp is fine. The tolex is a leather material and I was just wondering what the best method of cleaning it will be? Is it always going to smell? How do I tell if any got into the amp?
Oh, and I found out yesterday... on my birthday.
Happy birthday to me!

Can't actually say for sure that no urine ever got in there, but it sounds like it has dried out at least.
MMMmmm. Nothing like the smell of baked dog pee pumping out the back end of a warm amp

| | | | They say it's better to be pissed off than pissed on.
I can't see how the above comment helps though.
There are many enzyme products that can fix your issue.
Cat piss on your gear is a far more horrible.
If your drummer is the actual culprit..... |

Lovely.
This guy must be a guitar player.
If the speakers are paper, and urine got on them, the smell may never come out. Remember, dogs have a really awesome sense of smell.
I further suggest getting your amp up off the floor... maybe on a chair or something. Unless the dog is Marmaduke, he shouldn't be able to lift his leg your amp. |

Second, why would you leave an amp at your drummer's house if he has a house pet?
Thirdly, I agree with Lublin, piss on that dog! |

| | | | Although the post IS very serious in terms of asking what I should do, I felt I needed to post it for the humor. As much as it sucked to hear that message, I must admit it was hysterical.
My amp is way too big to lift off the floor, and the reason he told me to pick it up is because he doesn't want the dog to continue to pee on it, not that it smells too bad for him. I am really hesitant to leave my gear anywhere as well, but we've been good friends since middle school and are now all in college. I've always left equipment there. Vice versa when we practiced at my house.. except my dog never pissed on his f$#kin' #$it!
Oh yeah,
I already pissed on that dog.

If 1, have your friend keep his dog out of the practice space. It's a pretty simple fix that will benefit everybody.
If 2, lift some weights! It's a pretty small cab that doesn't exactly weigh a ton.
