Yes but would hurt to try it, the EV may not handle the power the G-K driver does. So keep an ear out for trouble.

Datasheet for the driver is here:

http://archives.telex.com/archives/EV/Speakers/EDS/

The Xmax is only 3.3 mm, which is not much by today's standards. Amazingly, the datasheet shows a graph of beam width versus frequency. I haven't seen it presented in that way before.

An EVM-15B in DIY box was my first real bass speaker.

That speaker is rated at 400w, which is probably higher than the GK. So not crazy at all.

I have the exact same speaker that I had in a Carvin 1x15 from the mid 80s (which currently has a JBL in it, just for the hell of it, not because of any problem with the EV). That thing sounded great, and was plenty loud for what I needed it for (rock band practice). I never tried to push it SUPER hard, but it never came close to havng any trouble keeping up either. I think the loudest I ever ran it was auditioning for a Rush cover band. 4 guys in a pretty tiny room (10x12 maybe) with a huge Neil Peart drum kit, HUGE vintage CV PA (must have been 2 15s in each cab that were about 2 feet wide and 4 feet high with huge horns), and me with my SWR 350 and a single 15 (guitarist ran an AxeFX into the PA, and keys and vocals were also in the PA). It was loud enough to nearly shake the head right off the top of the cab (after that I put the head on top of a milk crate) and sounded spectacular the entire time. In fact, that rig never sounded better, with the tube gain on the SWR cranked way up and the speaker getting a bit of juice.

I say try it out. But what (if anything) is wrong with the GK as is?

What don't you like about the GK?

It may work, but it also might not. The EV 15B is a good speaker, and sounds great in the cab I have two in, but the GK box is probably completely different and I have no idea what it would sound like in it.

Also, what amp are you using? That 15B is rated at 400 watts, but you might hit its maximum excursion quite a bit earlier. It's probably not going to pump out the lows like more modern drivers would.

With this cab, I plan to use my MB150S Micro Bass amp. I have not even tried this set-up yet. I also have a MB500 head which I did try it with, and the 115MBX was pushed just a little too hard with that head.

I was originally planning on using the MB150S / 115MBX combo for the contempary Christian band I am joining. But I also bought another GK rig (MB500 / 210MBE / 115MBE) that I may use when we play out.

I still plan on using the MB150S/115MBE at practice and I was thinking I might get a little deeper, punchier bass tone with the EV speaker, as the stock 115MBX does not impress me all that much.

I plan on trying the 115MBX at practice before I do anything, but of course our drummer quite, so I will not be able to see how it does with a full band.
