EA Doubler and "character pedal"

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all,
I was looking for ideas on a pedal to use with an EA doubler. From what I've read, Lots of guys think the EA is a little too clean and transparent. This little amp ticks all the boxes for me in terms of functionality and features except maybe the ability to add a little tone mojo. I could put something in the adjustable effects loop to "vintamagize" things up a bit for bass guitar. (I love made up words) Just wondering what's out there I've missed. I have 2 sansamps, and I feel they get a little harsh sometimes. I would like to evoke words concerning the gain like: creamy, smooth, and controlled. Something that you could leave on all the time, not just an effect.

I'm going the doubler rout because I will be putting an upright and my fiance's cello through it as well as BG. I dig the 2 separate channels. Any other amps with 2 separate channels other than A.I. or epi's that might work instead? I wish Epi would make an updated 502.

Thanks for any input

I've never used one, but never saw anyone write anything but praises for the Sansamp VT pedal. Otherwise maybe an Apex Exciter

EA stuff does tend to be very transparent, which would likely make it a great platform for a pedal to act as an additional preamp. Small package, lots of tones available between the two... Assuming the Doubler has enough power to keep you satisfied I don't see why it would be a bad idea at all.

Tech 21 VT, VT-Deluxe, Oxford, Leeds, etc. They've all received mostly glowing reviews. Catalinbread SFT for another Ampeg-emulating option. Tronographic Rusty Box for something with a bit more of an aggressive character. Darkglass Electronics Microtubes B7K, Aguilar Tone Hammer, Sadowsky Outboard.... The list goes on and on and on

Thanks, which one of those options is most likely to produce a creamy and smooth drive? I realize this can easily become a thread intended for the pedals forum, but I wanted it in the context of this amp. Any better choices for a 2 channel "doubler" amp?

I used a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal to warm up my EA iAmp 500. I would start there.

The SFT is looking pretty nice for this setup. I like the touch sensitivity that they claim. I've always liked Tech 21 as a company though... They rushed me a programable sansamp for a show I was playing before they hit the stores years ago. I'm pretty excited to order the EA soon though.
