Early 70s B15N Spkr ID
I'm looking to recone my Ampeg 15n speaker. I've narrowed it down to CTS or Eminence which I understand came in 72'. This is what was on the back of the magnet (if anyone can decode these things):
Anyone know what recone kit/dealer would suit this?
All I know is mine is early 70s. I tried to attach a pic but I'm new to the site, stupid with computers, so it might not be there! Many thanks for any input!

6390009 = Ampeg part number
137 = CTS
6808 = August 1968
8 ohms impedance
It is best because of shipping costs to find a local reconer. Check out http://www.speakerrepair.com/
for info on costs.

Nice, thanks! Good news, bad news for me, though, It turns out to be a 68' not early 70s but the good folks at soundspeakerrepair.com tell me they MIGHT have kits for the Eminence, not CTS which is probably the case with most recone suppliers. Only one shop does recones in my city (Calgary) and I was hoping to be able to do it myself, but it looks like I'll have to use em.

For what it's worth, I recently put the Eminence Legend 15' in my 70's B-15 and it really sounds great.

Yeh, put one in myself, like how it sounds, but want to have the original speaker for asthetics. Eminence sounds good, but it seemed to drop some in btm end.

Ir isn't that the Legend is lacking in the bottom, it just has a smoother or "flatter" lowend profile vs. the response bump you get from the CTS or other Eminence models like the Delta.
You want the bump for that classic tone.
Not that it matters really, just minor clarification as to what's going on there.

Yeah on the eminence vs CTS front I definitely preferred my reconed CTS over the eminence I tried in that cab, though it was a double baffle, not a 70s cab. I went through OC speaker (link BoT posted above) and it was like $25 to ship it to them from MA, around $20 shipped back on top of the recone price. I'm sure it would be more going across the border though...

Ya, I tried a Delta 15a in the Thiele cab B-15 when I had one and didn't like it, either. Ended up sounding scooped. Those particular CTS speakers have a response that is a bit weird but totally works. Reduced high end but a low mid that is to die for. They also came with Altec 421a's as an upgrade, which are great in those cabs because they have more high end content but more upper mid content so they don't sound scooped like the Delta, but I know of folks who prefer the CTS's over them.

A big vote for Santon Audio from me. Bob has been my goto guy since the Seventies. Any driver problem I have goes exclusively to him.

Stanton offers some nice vintage reckoned speakers from time to time.
