Early EV B215-M cab - what speakers are these?

I have a line on an early B215-M EV cab. It's a 2x15 + 6" midrange. The guy says he bought it new in 1978, which surprised me because I thought these had EV-15L's, which I'm fairly sure weren't made until the early 80's. I asked if he'd pull one and take a photo, but he said it's a huge pain to get the grill off. He's had one of the speakers reconed and said that they're "B15's." I've never heard of an EV B15. I know some of the later B215-M's came with EV-15B's, which are basically a 400w version of the 15L, but I doubt that's what he's referring to. He said he remembers the magnets being square, but wasn't sure since it's been a long time. The drivers are going to make or break this deal on my end, anyone got a guess what they might be?

Here's a photo:

Take a handle or jack plate off and shine a flash light in. Not rocket science.

Yeah that's true, but the cab is a 2+ hour drive from me so I want to be sure before I leave the house.

Ask him to do it then. Handle or jack plate shine a flashlight and snap a few pics.

If you're gonna drive 2 hours and pay more than 50 bucks for it, you might as well have the speaker data :0

If he had one of the drivers reconed, the driver should be on a rec'pt. Have him scan or photograph that receipt and email that to you. You can call the store that reconed the driver and ask what it is.

EVMs came out in the early/mid '70s. My first cabinet (purchased from my bass teacher) had 15 in. EV SROs in it, but I almost bought a EVM 15L first (back in about 1975).

EV series II 15B or 15L had round magnets, as did the Pro Line series or the Force series. Sometimes they had magnet covers that had the EV emblem and some nifty retro looking "cooling fins".

My cab came with 15b's. The later ones may have15L's. Mine also came without the EV logo painted on the grill...it had a small logo plate glued to the bottom right corner witness by the yellow glue spot in the picture above.

ev 15L

I have this same cab this cab sounds way better than any 810 cab, amazing sound with great low end too. the speakers in my b215m are 200 watts ev 15 L's with the heatsinks on the magnets which make them handle 400 watts. the voice coils and speakers are exactly the same as the 200 watt ones they just added a heatsink to keep the voice coil running cooler. they have been making both versions since 74' not the 80's. if you find one of these cabinets you buy very fast. they are the best ever made and will blow away any new production cab. I run a ampeg svt vr all tube head with a american custom fender jazz bass with lindy fralin pickups the best tone ever, di'addario nickle 105-50's
