In-ears - nub question

Sign in to disble this ad
If our band decides to use in-ears (from the front-of-house mix to us) do we really need cabinets?
Haven't used in-ears before and just wondering if we are receiving the final F.O.H. mix ,and are happy with that alone, would you really need to use a cab on stage?

You should probably not mix monitors and IEMs. In small to medium bars in Columbus, with bass in my IEM mix, and a majority of what I feel coming from the PA subs that I'm standing right next to, I get by with a 10" monitor on stage. Some people have in ear units that fit really well and provide better bass than what I am currently using, so as the IEMs work out by themselves. The booty is coming from the PA though. I found that when I had a big cab on stage, I wasn't in the PA as much. I could hear myself fine either way, but the audience couldn't.

When I went to Inears I went from two 410 cabs down to one 210 cab. I like to feel the bass a bit. I would also rather have an amp on stage and not need it than have my inears go down and wish I had it. I also find adding some stage volume adds some dimension to the sound.
