I am currently getting back into playing, I have an amp set-up that works fine (Eden 2x10 Metro combo on top of an SWR Goliath 4x10 cab)
Most of my playing will be covering Rock from 60's to current
I'm relatively happy with my rig now but wondered if any of the above manufacturers offered anything much different than my current rig...
Hope this is enough info |

It's all personal preference, and all 3 brands you mentioned have various models, and all are top notch pro gear. If you're happy with what you've got, consider yourself fortunate. If your curious, go forth and test drive some other gear.

They both veer towards a "Hi-Fi" type sound for clarity and articulation and will be less "in your face" than both Eden and SWR. Just my opinion of course.......
If it aint broken, don't fix it. And I've never bought anything without trying it out first (and I never will - too risky).

Hope this is enough info | First, the rig you have is fine for most type sof music - including what you're doing now. You have reason save for GAS to buy more gear. THAT SAID...
I have owned & used Epifani cabs for years and have been very very happy. I have used them for rock, CW, jazz and funk - they do the job *great*. They are NOT perfect - they are heavy for their size, at least the NYC (now called PS) models. But they sound *great*.
The thing is - all the brands you list have different model *lines* - Ask anyone who has used/owned Aguilar - the the GS and DB lines sound very different. So you should come up with a budget and some requirements - then we'll have more good suggestions.

Hope this is enough info | I wouldn't worry myself too much if i was you.
Every manufacturer will offer something different.
But is "different", "better" ?
Do they do the job of getting you heard ,better than your current set up?
With your current set up:
Can you hear yourself when on stage and in the contexts you play in and are you giving the sound man at gigs a signal he can work with?
Do you like what you hear in terms of your amp's performance?
If the answers to these questions are "yes" you should be alright unless you are prone to fall for marketing and GAS
You are the only one that really hears your amp so don't worry too much.
Now... do you like the bass you play?
Is it comfortable and does it sound good?
And most importantly... is it reliable?

Turn the spaceship around.

I'm pleased w all my gear...just got a gorgeous Lakland 55-94 Deluxe in Tealburst so I'm not really "needing" anything else as much as "wanting" more stuff...
I should realize that I'm blessed to have what I have...ESPECIALLY after being without an instrument for 3+ years... |

Warmer than 10" but punchier than 15"? |

Here's a good artice about this. Barefaced Bass - Why nominal diameter tells you nothing about tone

| | | | You are running an Eden combo 210 AND a 4x10.
Seems to be an overlap here.
but..anyway, the SWR Goliath is a big beast and will handle most gigs on its own unless stupid loud, IME.
The Aguilar GS 12" are punchy little 12's and when paired up, can put out a lot of sound. I wouldn't bother using just the one unless a pretty quiet gig/situation, myself.
I think Aguilar are making very good cabs and the GS12 is less coloured, IMV, than the Goliath which is mid punchy. It has oddles on bottom end but you need to be away from it to benefit from that, IMV. The audience will like it more than you do,  so once you get used to that stiff sound making you work hard on your technique, you'll love it more.
I'd have 2 GS112 over a Goliath 410 on all but the louder gigs, IMV..and by that, I mean 2 roaring gtrs who don't know the meaning of dynamics.
But... you do need to hear these to get your own reference.
Both SWR and Aguilar makes good cabs but I'd favour the latter, at this time. |

I'm now considering going to a cab that will handle low end better, and was considering a 1x15 cab, but with the popularity of 12 cabs...I thought I'd get some feedback | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
