EBS microbass 2 or a nice bass head ?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there guys.
I got an EBS microbass 2. I own no rig amp. The main idea of using the mb2 is to bypass all the preamp controls I come across at gigs. With no time loss, I just plug the mb2 into the Fx Return of the club's bass amp and always get close to my sound. I also use it as a recording preamp. My main concerns are that it is acting mainly as a DI and not as a preamp. It cannot run a power amp. And it tends to produce some hissing at my favorite settings.
  1. Would it be wise to replace it with a nice bass head?
  2. Will it be right to use a bass head without a cab for recording and rehearsing?
  3. And MAINLY
  4. can the bass head be used at any gig cab out there or will I constantly be restricted due to watt power etc?
  5. Can a bass head be used as a preamp on another bass head the way I do with the EBS mb2?

thank u for your time

1. Yes, either that or a power amp and use the MB2 as the pre.

2. Yes, as long as it's not all-tube.

3. That's not really a question, is it?

4. You can use it with any cab, though if you get a lot of watts, some lighter duty cabs may not be able to take it.

5. Most of the time. There are a couple that make it difficult, but most will let you do it.

Thank you JimmyM !!! I've once plugged the mb2 in a power amp and got extra low volume. I've read that it is not meant to drive power amps. I'll check it out though!
