Definitely an interesting idea. I have the tools, but I'm not so good with wiring schematics. I got kind of lost in those crossover notes.

So I landed on a pair of new GB Focus 1x12s. From a logistics standpoint, it's an awesome setup. But I'm not sure the voicing is what I want. At a practice the other night with my originals 90s-indie-ish band, I tried going DI from the Aguilar into the PA (75 P bass, no effects) and really liked the sound much better than what was coming from the Focus cab. The tone was much less colored (even when DI'ing after the EQ section) and sounded like a more "pure" P bass sound. I'm wondering if a different cab set, such as some of those mentioned in this thread, would give me the small footprint/portability but have the voicing I'm talking about.

I purchased my TH500 late last month, and grabbed a pair of used Focus 112s to start my mini-rig experiment. Like you, I was not in love with the tone.

I just received a single Aguilar DB112, but I haven't had enough time with it to form an opinion (other than asking why the hell a $500 single 12" cabinet doesn't have a set of $4 rubber feet on the side opposite of the handle). In the few minutes I spent with it, it definitely sounded more full, but still very middy.

A single 12" cabinet is also too damn low to the ground to be practical, so I'll probably pair it with a DB112NT shortly.

In a nutshell, as a few other have posted, the Focus cabs are what they are, a fairly inexpensive cab that has its shortcomings. I guess we'll have to spend a few more dollars to find a better match.

Small 1x12 cabs all offer some level of compromise within their given design parameters. Less expensive smaller cabs don't offer the punch, tone or performance, but they are easy on the back and easy on the pocket book. My Markbass NY121 cabs are so easy to carry and worthy of pro gigging. I use them a lot. But they are not my ultimate true north at all. I am certain I will prefer a Baer ML112 or Bergantino HD112. But those are more expensive and bigger.

The value leader in 1x12 cabs is probably the GK NEO II. But from what I've read, even those have some level of compromise.
