Eden 215xlt or Berg HT322?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello Talkbass,

I'm currently using a Fender Dual Bass 400 bi-amped through a Peavey 1820. I like the tone, but want to upgrade to something a bit lighter.

I have the opportunity to pick up a Berg HT322 for $400, and/or an Eden 215xlt for $300.

I plan on getting a new head as well (either a LMB II/III or a RH450), but which of these is the better investment cab-wise?

Many thanks in advance,

OsoMejor

That will depend entirely on YOUR personal preference. It's a better idea to get the amp you want, THEN audition cabs with it.

I thought that would be the answer. Guess I just wanted to justify grabbing the Berg due to the amount of love it gets on the forum.

Any suggestions on heads? Played through a Carbine M6, I liked it, but I feel the presets with the RH450 would be a big help (band plays a variety of styles), and that the M6 may be overkill for something like the 322

I have an HT-322 and I can say that I haven't found an amp yet that doesn't sound fantastic with it.

Amps I've used with this cab:
Ampeg SVT-VR 300watt tube amp
Thunderfunk 420B 400watt Solid State amp
Aguilar DB750 700watt hybrid amp (tube pre, SS power)
Vintage Musicman HD150 150watt hybrid amp (SS pre, tube power)
Ashdown 300Mag EvoIII 300watt Solid State amp (in 150watt mode)

It takes pedals very well and because you can dial the horn down it also works very well for both guitar and bass. It's a little bulky so make sure you get one with castors or plan on putting them on. If you buy the Berg for $400 you shouldn't have any problem selling it for the same price if you don't like it.

If we're talking 'investment,' I would think the Berg all day...then again, I'm not a huge Eden fan...but still, investment-wise, the Berg all the way.

As for amps...you'll get tons of (valid, yet subjective) arguments. I'm not a fan of either of those heads, but in general, the Mesa trumps the TC all day long...just my opinion...I just think that little RH450 is underpowered and cheaply built...I have a couple buddies who have them as backups...I dunno, I just don't like 'em!

The Berg comes with castors and a cover, so it comes with everything for "safe and convenient" transport.

I might have to pull the trigger, just trying to convince myself...

Well, the 322 has been sold. Guess I don't have to worry anymore. Thank you, Oh Wise Bassists for your insights.
