Eden 400 Traveler settings?????

Sign in to disble this ad
I'll start off by saying that I am the least tech savvy member on this site. I have a Eden 400 and if any players who play this amp can tell me where their favorite settings are I would appreciate it. I realize that it's an individual choice based on various aspects however how about some good basic settings.......

Start flat, and make very slight tweaks from there.

Yeah, I don't have a multi-board.........I'm pretty much looking for some suggested settings such as the enhance in the 9 clock position....just trying to get a really solid overall tone before I tweak here and there.............I realize this is a silly request but I'm having a hard time getting a good sound out of this amp and I keep reading raves about it so I assume I'm missing something...............Hence the question to folks that love this little amp.....

I use a metro head so a little different. I have used other eden heads though. I agree with flat EQ to start with. Add enhance if it's a little heavy on the mids for your taste. It really comes down to your ears to tell you what is best. Starting flat and making minor adjustments is the way to begin in my experience.

@ jazzin0927 - if you fill in your profile with your gear/style/influences it will help people help you.

I usually set the input gain so the clip light barely flashes, and bypass the compressor.
Starting with everything flat, I often boost Bass by a click or 2 and reduce Treble by the same amount.
I find adding couple clicks of the semi-parametric at 180 Hz & 1.2 kHz add body and note definition without getting boomy or harsh. I rarely use Contour, and if the bass is mushy-sounding in the room I reduce Bass accordingly.

Sounds great with all my bass guitars and two Bergantino HT112 cabinets! It's not my favorite amp for upright...always a little slow/mushy sounding for my tastes.

Tell us what you are working with. What tone you are hearing in your head.

What Winston said about the gain. Eden WT amps sound the best when set according to the manual- which is how winston described it. Gain set to where the loudest note barley clips the preamp.

Yeah...downloaded the manual and it actually tells very little which is very surprising. I'm playing through a Harke cabinet and to be honest I am not liking this amp as much as I liked my Kruger 200RB (I know ancient). I fell into the hype of Eden amps and I'm sure it's a hot amp and since I am a Tech infant I figured must be my settings......

That or I just plain suck playing bass

Bass is Geddy Lee Jazz and an SR Ibanez

My other favorite amp is an old GK400RB.
It's quick, clear, and grindy in a way that the Eden just isn't, especially when the GK's Boost + Master are cranked.

Ok....
Gain & Master work in conjunction to each other. Raise gain till clip lights momentarily on peak notes. That's perfectly ok and what Eden call the sweet spot
* For agressive tone (i.e scooped mids suitable for green day style pick playing) adjust enhance from 10-12 o'clock to taste.
* Enhance off has a nice fat low mid emphasis. Great for general fingerstyle tone.
* Boost bass to 1-2 o'clock dependant on room. I leave at 12 if no need to boost.
* Boost low mids and respective boost (under low mid control) to 1;30-2:30 dependant on taste for punchiness, no prob leaving this flat though...
* Compressor off (unless i'm using a low action bass subject to spikes from peaks associated with fret buzz, steve harris style).
* All other controls flat.
* I play passive fender p & j's
* These settings work gret in my cover's bands (4 of them) that cover a wide array f styles and tones...

Hope this helps!
Hope this helps.

Totally agree - this aint no GK. Eden's all about warmness.
If you're after GK growl and you don't wanna change amps i'd recommend getting a growl pedal like the vt of catalinbread sft...

As others have said, set all of the EQ gain knobs at noon. Put enhance at 9 o'clock if it sounds good to you. I leave mine off - I never use it. Many people (including me) believe this is the way the WT series sounds best. If you boost any frequencies, don't go past about 1 o'clock. The Eden tone stack is very sensitive.

Your sound is also going to depend on your cabinet. Which Hartke is it? The WT series sounds best with the D210XST or D-410XLT/XST.

I am a big believer in matching brands of heads with the same brand cab - after all most manufacturers make their cabs and amps to compliment each other.

With Eden xst cabs i often boost a little around 550hz on the mid eq. Everything else flat.

With xlt cabs I boost bass a little and run a little enhance. It depends on the room.

Yeah, I was a little out of character in my post. I'll do better next time.
