Eden D112XLT

Sign in to disble this ad
Now that I have my EGRW264, I have Eden GAS. Last night, I ran my head through an Eden D112XLT cab. I thought it sounded great, but I am concerned about it only being rated 250w. The Hartke 1x12 is $100 cheaper and is rated @ 300w.

I know the Eden is well built, is it sturdy in terms of the load it can handle?

Should be no problem. Get what you want. I run a Eden Navigator -> Peavey IPR1600 bridged to 1 or 2 Bergantino AE112's which are rated at 300w. Use your ears. If it sounds good it is good.

+1 Thermal power ratings are pretty useless info. If you are within 100 watts, zero issue. Most drivers will mechanically fart out long before they get into power trouble (i.e., voice coil melting, etc.).

That is personally my least favorite 112... extreme mid voicing, very sharp low end attenuation. I would choose something else myself. On the other hand, if you like that tight, punchy, bright tone, nothing wrong with that cab in an absolute sense.

I had two of these cabs. They were OK in a band mix but I couldn't stand their tone in my practice studio. Realizing that this was where I spent the largest percentage of time playing, I sold 'em both and have been happy ever since.

Irrespective of power ratings, I tried a lot of different cabs and found the Hartke to sound very, very good.

I bought the Hydrive 112 which I thought sounded better (more full-range) than several much more expensive cabs.

As a side note, I've pushed the Hartke much harder than common sense would dictate and it held up to the punishment just fine.

Now I want another one!

I do favor a bright and punchy tone. I like old school tone, but it's not my tone.

The Hydrive 112 is killer and it would be a great choice too.

Power rating aside, you'll get better sound quality and volume in a band situation if you use at least two of those cabs.

I use the D112XLT in my acoustic trio, run by your amps father (or grandfather?) the WTX-260. At low volumes it can actually sound quite lush and warm, especially if it's quiet enough to engage the bass boost. As the volume goes up, so the tone becomes brighter, more mid heavy, and the low end just doesn't keep up.

I don't think you'll have problems with the wattage unless you find yourself regularly pushing the EGRW 264 all the way up to it's limits- where the output limiter is engaging on your loudest notes regularly. At that point I might worry, but the cabinet will probably let you know by farting out, so using your ears is the best bet.

Any new purchase is going to be a ways off, but thanks for the information. I do like the D112XLT, and will play through one a few more times and compare it to the Hartke Hydrive 112.

I tried a Markbass 2x10 with my Eden head at GC, and it smoked! The cab was very light too. It may have been under 30 lbs. It was $599, the same the Eden. The prize for sound and price is the Hartke 1x12 for $399!

The Markbass cab that I liked so much was the Traveler 102P.

The D112XLT is without a doubt the worst cab Eden ever made. It really does fart out when pushed not that hard.

If its sound is for you, that's fine, but be sure to check it out VERY well before you buy.

Thanks, I've pretty much eliminated the D112XLT. When I get another cab, it will probably be a Hartke 1X12 or a Markbass 2X10.

I went back to the store today and a/b'ed the Hartke and the Eden 1x10 that comes with my EGRW 264 sounded much more clear and crisp! Maybe I just have GAS, and I need to sit tight.
