Eden WP-100: any users and/or opinions?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm thinking about selling my Genz Benz GBE750 and acquiring the WP-100 Navigator along with and amp(undetermined).

As I today I haven't preview the box, but was wondering if any user have an opinion(s) on GBE750 vs Eden WP-100 or just the WP-100.(i.e tone, reliability, etc.)

I have been watching this thread as I am also thinking of pruchasing an Eden Navigator WP100 as well.

I have never been into preamps, but lately, I have been looking around for a compressor.

I play through an Ampeg V4BH, and am wondering how the Eden preamp will match up.

Any suggestions or advise would be appreciated.

I really like the Navigator pre. Great compressor and excellent EQ sections. If I ever had to go back to a "big power" setup, it'd be a 4U rack with a Navigator and a Crown XLS Drivecore 2500.

Wow! Fast responses. I thank you for your input so quickly.

(Dece, Please forgive me for hijacking your thread. It is certainly not my intentions. It's just that I hate to start a new thread when there is an existing one that just needs more information.)

I am thinking of purchasing mine used. Is there any quirks, flaws, or issues I should be cautious of prior to purchasing? Any additional information is certainly useful as well as helpful.

Plenty of Navigator info, if you do a search.
Ran one for a long time, with no issues.
Nice unit.

Issues?
Yes....
If you boost the tube... it may be gritty, no big deal, turn it off doesn't make a difference & replace it later with any tube.
Check the Direct outs, sometimes they can be a little noisy but you have a GND lift & a pre\post EQ
Make sure you get the footswitch, its awesome.
You have 1000s of tonal abilities with the mid semi-parametric EQs... but play the tone flat, just one click in either direction is a VERY big tone change.
The compressor takes time to master but its great.
Shut off your enhance when you are testing it out... do the EQ yourself.

Good luck

Yeah, the tube drive really doesn't do much, or, all that well.
Changing out various tubes didn't seem to make much diff, for me.

Thanks Tunaman for the advise. That tube you refer to: Is it a
12AU7 or 12AX7?

Chef: Thanks for the heads up. I did some research, and you are right. In fact, there is so much info here, alone on TB, it really got overwelming. In fact, that search I did, was where I found this thread again.

Well, with all your help and advise, I went ahead and made the purchase. This one was made in 1998, but it is in pristine condition. The guy who I bought it from, was very meticulous about his gear. In addition, friendly and honest.

When I got it home, I only tinkered with it for about a half hour, and I do need to read a little about it yet, however, to say the least, so far, I am very pleased.

I am sure I am going to have plenty of questions here in the near future. I do appreciate all the expertise and advise.

Does anyone know when Eden started making the WP100 preamps?

Thanks again.

I bought mine in 1996, and I think it was pretty new then--they started right around then or shortly before. If you have any questions about it, let me know--I've been playing mine for 15 years now (yikes, am I that old?)

I am running this exact setup with but with an XLS1500, and it pretty much does everything I need and does it all well. No complaints - although mine had some issue with not getting enough volume from the 1/4" outputs so I just run it with the XLR outputs and it has plenty of juice

That's more likely an amplifier input sensitivity issue than a Navigator issue.

could be, but all I know is it works fine with the XLRs but not with the 1/4" outs? doesn't seem right to me that the XLR outs should be as much louder as they are...

I believe the xlr's are hotter output.
I've had this issue with other preamps, going to certain qsc's, but have no direct experience
with your amp.

I've been running one for a month or so and I love it. Started with a Crest CA9 and just moved over to a Crown XTi4000. Both sound fantastic through a fEARful 15/6/1.

Can't go wrong! I've noticed an improvement in my recorded tone as well. Very deep, present and crisp (Alembic Series I shorty, for the most part).

It's a very deep sounding rig. The low end is wonderful.

Ahh ok, that makes more sense, I thought the 1/4" outs were supposed to be hotter than the xlr's, thats why I was confused as to why it seemed softer...

So far i have found all the pre's I have drive the XLS just fine

I have not really even had the opportunity to see what it can do yet. Any suggestions on different settings that you prefer?
