Sign in to disble this ad
how do you guys setup your EQ on this particular amp head? Im having a hard time dialing in the tone I know its capable of IE mike gordons, or phil leshs or something at least somewhat close. Is there something im missing here? will a sansamp or preamp help?

My settings are - no enhance, one + click bass, 1 + click low mids, everything else flat - gain set relatively high at 2:00.

I have heard that Phil cuts all the mids on his Eden WT then adds them back with an outboard unit. Sansamp is not mid friendly so I doubt that would help.

Yes, indeed - 12:00 straight up = flat ... except enhance, which off = all the way to the left.

The Eden WT-600 was the only amp I ever had that sounded great to me with everything set flat/noon. Perhaps a touch of low mids, but not crucial. FWIW.

Those Eden heads have great EQ IMO, not familiar with the guys you mention but don't be afraid to turn those knobs.

One of, if not THE best sounding amps set "flat" IME. I tended to run mine very similarly to nashman as well. Seems daft I replaced it with an amp which I have to tweak a bit to get "my" sound really!

With the Eden tone stack, the best place to start is everything at noon, Enhance off. From there, I like to give one click of bass and maybe one click of mids at about 700 hz. The key is not to overdo it. If you set any EQ level above about 2 o'clock, you're overdoing it. If you use the Enhance control at all, about 9 o'clock would be the max.

Above settings work for me, too.

Main thing is to get the gain set right- too low and no guts, too high and nasty farting out sounds. In the sweet spot the amp comes alive. on passive Fenders that can mean way up near and above 2:00.

Bingo. You'll probably find that you won't have to spend nearly as much time tweaking the EQ to your liking when you do this first.

When all else fails, set everything flat, it may not be what you want but it will not sound bad. The cabinet or cabninets you use play into the tone you get also! IMHO this is the chain to your tone.
1. your fingers
2. your bass
3. the head wt550
4 your cabinet

Depends on your cab of course, but I typically run gain according to bass, i.e. passive or active. No enhance to start, everything flat. I have Bart's in my bass, and between them and the cabs I get a lot of mid punch from the get go.

After that, it's completely room dependent. One theatre I play has a nasty low mid hump where I'm set up, so I dial it out. Often, a click or two of enhance will clean things up nicely. And a touch of bass is sometimes exactly the ticket.

I've always found this amp really lets you hear the real sound of your instrument, and your technique!

The EQ on the amp is very sensitive, so staying in the first lines boost or cut does a whole lot.Anything more and you really alter the tone in an unnatural way.Much of course depends on your cab and your bass( especially if it has a preamp. Also subtracting frequencies you don't like is sometimes better than adding.
For me,Bag End S15XD speakers,J Bass 5 string, Marcus Miller type of sound:
no Enhance,Bass 1 o'clock,low 300hz 12:30,mid 600hz 11:30,high 6k 11:30,Treble 1 O'clock.
Hope that helps

If I want to sound like Mike I'll usually use these settings.

Lots of good info here that accords with my experience:
- Very important to set the gain right, makes a huge difference
- Bass +1
- Low-mids @ ~500 to 700: +1
- either Treble shelf or high mid @ ~2000 - 3000: -1
- Enhance between 8 and 9 o'clock (I wouldn't go above 9 o'clock

His tone is certainly not for everyone. I think he boosts the mids back in an EQ after the enhance is turned all the way up.

Example;

Something somewhat close would be to turn up the enhance and bring some mids back in with the semi-parametric controls.

Phil also uses a pick... and what it's made out of and thickness effect tone.
