Eden WT550 or WT800c with an Ampeg 610 svt??

This is my first post here on TB after lurking for the past few months. So much excellent information to be found here!

I've tried to search this topic and haven't come up with anything but I'll apologize in advance if this has already been discussed.

Anyways, I have a 610 svt hlf cab and I've been looking for a used Eden WT800C. My cab is 4 ohm and rated 600 watts RMS. I like the idea of running the WT800C bridged. I understand the b and c models are the only WT800's that will mono bridge to 4 ohm.

I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with either the 800 or 550 through a 610svt. I'm seeing some nice deals on the WT550 in the classifieds here and I'm wondering if it will be powerful enough at 550 watts. I'm on a tight budget and I like the price on the 550s but tend to think it'd be worth it to hold out til an 800C comes along... What do you guys think?

Running a WT800 bridged could be dangerous for your 610 if you don't go easy in it @ 4ohms the 800 puts out 1100watts rms with a +3db of head room. I own a WT550 that i run at 4ohms with a 410xlt and a 410xst and have plenty of volume. The wt550 is 500 watts rms @ 4ohms with a +3db of head room as well. And 500 Eden watts are not the same as say 500 Ampeg watts think SVT 3pro. So as far as pushing you cab to it's limits a WT550 will have NO problem doing that.

If the cab is 8 ohm I would've recommended the WT800.
But 4 ohm, you simply do not need the extra muscle of the bigger amp.

Basically, you are good with either head. The bigger head, would just be a nice-to-have, and perhaps gives you more flexibility for future changes / upgrade in the rig. If you are worrying about over-powering the cab with the WT880, then just be careful with the volume knob.

I don't have experience with the exact same config, but I tried both head with a couple of different 610s (Eden, SWR, Bergantino...) and they are all slamming, even with "only" 550 watt from the WT550.

Thanks for the good advice. I've heard its always better to overpower than underpower a cab so that was my main concern.

I can't see ever needing to expand beyond a 610 in the near future so it seems like the 550 will be a good way for me to go. I'd actually like to switch over to a 410 xlt at some point which seems like a real nice match to the 550.

You really can't go wrong with either head, if you can afford the extra weight and expense of the bigger one, go with it IMO
