Eden WT800 advice

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys. Just recentley got hold of my first Eden rig after many years of umming and arring.
Just a quick question that might seem a little naieve. I am playing a Bacchus Standard 5 that has an on-board J Retro Deluxe pre-amp installed so its active. Now is it important that I have the -12db engaged when playing. When it is engaged I didnt get the full powerful Eden tone that I have heard so much about. On the opposite hand, I don't want to worry about sending a signal that is too hot for the amp.

Is it safe to play this rig with an active bass without the -12db engaged? and are there any Eden WT800 owners that have got any insight into using active basses with this amp?

Thanks
J

As long as you have the gain turned up to where the clip light is barely flashing you're fine.

Thanks mate I'm guessing that if my bass very active then the gain would flash at around 11 o'clock. It is currently starting to flash at 2.30 on the E string. Do you use Eden gear?

I have, but not currently.

This might help you.

SETTING YOUR LEVEL – Effective use
of the gain control will ensure the best
signal-to-noise ratio. The Set Level,
Compressor, and EQ Clip indicators are all
provided to assist you in setting your level
correctly. You should begin the process
with your master control set to a low, or off
position, and your tone controls set flat.
While playing your instrument normally,
bring the gain control up until the set level
light or the compressor light winks on the
peaks that result from your strongest normal
attack. This will generally show up most on
your lower strings. You will use the
compressor light if the compressor is
engaged (enhance knob pushed in) and the
Set Level light if the compressor is disabled
(enhance knob pulled out). If more
compression is desired, increase the gain
control so the compressor light comes on
more readily. Having set your initial level,
you are now ready to proceed with setting
up your tone controls. Since tone
adjustments have an impact on the overall
preamp gain level, you may well need to
return to the gain control and repeat this
process once you have completed your EQ
adjustments.

I use a WT-800 with both active and passive basses - no problems.

As Low Class said, just make sure the gain is set correctly, and you're good to go.

Yep - not all basses have the same output levels (otherwise we wouldn't even need gain controls!), so just adjust to suit your instrument.

Great amp you've got there...

Use the passive input at all times unless you get distortion.

esa372.... And do you always leave the pad disengaged for both basses?

Yes, it has always been disengaged; I don't think I have ever used it.

But base that decision on the input level - different instruments need different settings. My active basses may not have the same output as yours.
