Eden WT800 import, take a chance?

I saw that my local Guitar Center had an Eden WT800 at a great price listed in their used inventory. I stopped in to check it out. The unit was a new Chinese model that they bought from a music store that went out of business. It was being sold without a warranty. I told them to plug it in for a listen. After plugging into an Ampeg SVT HLF cab via 1/4" cable, I fired it up and it immediately blew a fuse. They did not have another fuse on hand. The salesperson said he would get a fuse in and give it another try. I suppose if it still fails they will have to send it out for service. I am wondering if I want to persuit this unit or just pass. The price was lower than I have ever seen a used WT800 much less a new one (albeit without warranty).

I personally would pass on it. I have a an 800A from the ninties that has been my go to during my "amp experimentation" years and it has never let me down, minus changing the preamp tube. I picked up an 800C (chinese model) on ebay for a great price a couple years ago, and had it serviced 3 times already. Id suggest finding an 800A or 800B on ebay or Craigslist

.

I am leaning that way. I have a WT550 that I love but run at 8 ohms with my sole cabinet, a GK Neo 212-II. On big shows or outdoors the light on the power switch dims when I dig in. I always have PA support but on the bigger stages push it pretty hard. Maybe the answer is another cab to get full output but most of the work is being handled by the PA and I don't want to pack another box if I don't have to.

Although it may not be what you want to hear, more speakers is a better solution than adding more power.

As for the WT800, the move to Chinese production seems to have actually increased Eden's quality overall; but that particular unit sounds suspect. If it were me, I'd only consider it if it was operating reliably.

So it sounds like you want more stage volume? If you are constantly going through the PA, you really wouldnt need to push it hard, unless that is your sound(gain pushing the speakers till they distort some)? Id say either ask for more moniter, or get another 8ohm cab and that way you can push the 550 at 4ohms with ease

Now that I think about it, this past weekend I played outdoors and did not have any issues. Maybe what I experienced was a house power issue.

Yeah add another cab. The WT550 gets stupid loud with a couple decent sized cabinets
