Anybody have a ball park figure for what wattage the 2515 can take before it starts to hit xmax in the sub 100hz territory?

Hi.

Bill, how did You figure that wattage out.

I don't doubt You, but with the Eminence designer I couldn't duplicate the result. (Well I did, but in a 30L closed box).

What did I do wrong?

Regards
Sam

Just so you don't think you can only run a 150 watt amp into them, I have the Basslite C2515 neos in 115 cabs and I use my Superfly amp with them (250 watts per cab) and I play pretty damn loud with them. I also play a 5 string bass and they don't fart out on the low B. My cabs are tuned to be more mid-voiced, and the lows on my EQ are flat or even cut a bit, if that helps any.

Just because you might run a higher watt amp into them doesn't mean you will actually be putting all those watts into them. Far from it.

I've been using them for almost two years now and they are still holding up quite well and never, ever sound distorted like they were farting out. Excellent 15's.

By all means. If you had the ability to see the actual output of an amp under normal operating conditions you'd find it's usually running no more than 25 watts. Where you run into problems is with high power transients, which can easily run 10dB above average output, and suddenly your 25 watt average output is a 250 watts peak, and a 150 watt displacement limited driver is farting out. But that doesn't necessarily mean you need to get a 250 watt capable driver, you just need to tame the output peaks with a compressor. Which, BTW, is why tube amps seem to go louder watt per watt, as their inherent compression allows them to run with a much lower peak to average output ratio than an SS amp that hasn't been fed a compressed signal.
