You can break them in for as good as they'll get performance in 24 hours or just play through them and they'll get there after a few gigs.

It also depends on the enclosure type.
If the cab is closed it not so much of a problem to not break 'm in. This enclosure type is a bit more forgiving when it comes to TSP variations of the driver.

The suspension might be a little tighter on a new speaker but that doesnt mean any special care is needed on a new speaker. They will just sound a little better after a little use. There is no parts on a speaker that rub together like a new engine where rubbing surfaces have to be mated. Old wives tale.

Allmost.
A ported cab is tuned with the drivers TSP's in mind. These TSP's are allways measured with a "broken-in" driver.
Cone excursion is being influenced by the tuning of the cab-size/port. So, the cone movement is better controlled with the broken-in driver.
Also, when the suspension is not broken in, the TSP's will vary more with high cone excursion.
