Is this an Eminence speaker? Or something else?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does the "67" at the start of that one number mean it is an Eminence speaker? Or is it something else? Thanks for any info.

I did try to research it on google, but didn't get very far.

Its a big 18 incher, cast aluminum frame.

I found something on it.

http://eminence.com/faqs/faq6.asp

It is Eminence, built the 2nd week of 2002. I found it while dumpster diving and it seems to work. I gave it the ole battery pop test and got action out of it. I wonder why someone would throw it away?

Its mine now.

I'm going to try hooking it up to an amp, although I don't have a box for it. Should be pretty good for bass, right?

Whaddaya mean? It has to be in a box or it will blow?

I just hooked it up to my amp at very low volume and it was distorting. Maybe that's why they threw it away.

Even if it needs to be re-coned I got a deal.

Even a damaged voice coil would still move the cone with a battery. I'd guess a re-cone will cost something like $120-$150. If you like what an 18 will do then it may be worth something. Myself, I'd put it back in the dumpster.

Hmmm

My first "real" bass rig had a Peavey 1820 cab. One 18, two 10s. It was pretty good at the time.

I got a 10" Eden reconed for $65 I think it was. I was expecting this would cost more, but I won't be prepared to spend $120 or more.

I usually pay around 40-45 bucks for the labour involved. The re-cone kit, if available, is the rest of the price. If the speaker guy has to use generic parts to construct a suitable cone then the price will be more.

Trouble is, as I see it, that in order to put the driver into a suitable box you need to know the TS parameters. You need to know exactly what speaker it is that you have. A generic re-cone will leave you with unknown TS specs.

Thanks for the info. It does have a model number, the "18366" I believe is the model #, so that should tell the re-cone company what they need to know.

Eminence can probably tell me something about it as well. It is likely what Eminence calls "custom" rather than one of their stock models, meaning it was made to order for a company that builds PA gear or something. But I'm pretty sure Eminence will give me the specs.

I learned this by reading on the Eminence site.

If you call Eminence, they can tell you the size of the voice coil, the power rating, and who they made it for. Then call that factory, and they will tell you where they used it.

$120 is WAY too much to spend to recone.

Hi.

Congrats on the free speaker.

Unfortunately Paul's advice to put it back to the dumpster may be the best course of action. He speaks from experience and so do I.

While the recone is possible, there's no telling whether the motor is fine and/or free of minuscule particles of dirt or magnet fragments until the reconer opens 'er up.

If it's a "custom" or more fittingly OEM design, no specs will be available per the agreements between the companies.
I learned this by trying to get such specs from Eminence .

This is correct. I called Eminence yesterday. They could not, as per agreement, give me the specs.

Oh well. I'll see how much a recone would cost. I know of a good recone company not too far from where I live. If its too much I won't do it. I'm losing the initial enthusiasm for my great find, so may just forget about it altogether.

I was so excited to find it because it looked so good and I envisioned making a cool plywood cab for it and all, as if I actually need another project. I am actually looking for a 15" though, to go with this old bass amp I have (its an EMC combo amp from the 70's, missing its speaker).
