Empty Ampeg SVT-15E, which Eminence speaker?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm about to acquire an unloaded SVT-15E cab & since I'm an Eminence artist, I'm going to load it up with one of their drivers. Which one would you choose, AND WHY?

I'm thinking I'll make it a 4 ohm load, to either use by itself or along with my SVT-410HLF. Thanks...

Well, since you are an Eminence artist, there should be no problem with buying original speaker. And I think it may be the best option. Maybe even they could do a custom speaker - with original sound and 4ohm load?

I'm not that high up on their list... it'll be more like picking from their stash & nothing custom.

Just hoping someone else out there has some experience with this...

Mixing a 4x10 with a 1x15 will be limiting you. The 4x10 will be more efficient and go lower than the 15. You'll probably end up with a damaged 15.

Kappalite 3015LF

This speaker is loud and low and can take a pile of power.

the 3015lf doesn't work very well past 1.5k, so i wouldn't use that one, but i might try the regular 3015. however, the 410hlf stands alone and a 115 wouldn't even make a dent with it, even with a 3015.

If you want it to be 4 ohm, the C2515 is a good choice. It looks a bit more ol'schooly than the 3015. That said, mixing a 15 with a 410HLF is a recipe for suck.

Ok, well the 410HLF won't be a good match.... understood & prolly agree. I'm getting this empty 15 in trade for a pedal -- was just gonna try to get something usable. Instead of a pedal that collects dust...

Once you get it, I'll trade you a pedal for it if you don't end up using it...

I'd go with a Kappalite 3015. Or if you want 4 ohms for sure maybe a C2515 but I haven't heard one of those directly to say. Looks like it'd probably be a bit more 'characterful' in the midrange

I'm curious about this now.... So the original speaker is 8 ohm.. correct?

What do you need to do to make the cab 4-ohm? Would you disconnect the horn and just wire the cab with the new 4-ohm speaker as just a woofer?

Is there a crossover in this cab to consider?

I guess if it's gonna suck to use WITH the 410HLF, then it's really gonna be a stand alone cab... so, 8 ohms won't be a deal breaker. My rep recommended the Legend CB158 & it's an 8 ohm -- prolly very close to the stock cone.

About those 3015s -- I'm not much into the highs anyways... that might be a good way to go. I don't play active basses, often use plenty of dirt, and roll the tones knobs off... and love the sound of the infamous "mudbuckers."

That being said & having the option to go 4 or 8 ohms... different ideas?

I am (possibly being wrong) assuming that I could just install a 4 ohm speaker instead of the 8 ohm speaker & have a 4 ohm cab... I didn't even think about the horn.... it's actually not even in my hands yet -- didn't think it had a horn, there's not a control on the rear panel....

the 3015 has enough high end to make it usable for other stuff besides reggae. the 3015lf doesn't. don't know much about the legend. i would think a 3015 would be good for it, though.

I think the Legend CB158 is probably what they used originally. I see it has an 80oz magnet and rated for 300 watts.

Ampeg spec's say an 80oz magnet and is rate for 200 watts which could well be the rating of that speaker in their enclosure.

i could buy that. ampeg's always been pretty honest about power handling.

There shouldn't be a horn on the SVT15E. If there is, it's aftermarket

voice coil is the mechanism that makes the speaker work. it's under the dustcover on the speaker.
