Enough Power?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all.. I have a Traynor YBA 200-2 Tube head that I use in gigs. We practice in a rather large Fire Hall and I constantly have to turn up bass head to be heard over the guitar and drums. Master is at 7,,gain is at 4 to 5. My cabs are (2) 1x12's with tweeter and Eminence Baselite 2512 11's. Will purchasing this help my volume issue.

Thanks for all your thoughts... Laurie P.

Probably not. 2512s are displacement limited to about 100w each in the all important midbass octave. All you'll accomplish with more power is to damage them. Besides, the natural compression of your YBA 200 gives it the equivalent loudness of at least 400w SS anyway. Two options: add at least one more identical cab, or get the dummer and guitar'd player to turn it down.

Get more speakers. 412-215-810, that YBA 200 will roar with enough speakers.
I use 2 15's (3015) with my 225 watt VB-2 and have no problem getting stupid loud.
My band practices in my 3800 sq ft warehouse with 18 ft ceiling.

WOW! Really? 2-15 that much louder than (2) 1x12's?? The sensitivity of the Baselites are 99.9 which I thought was pretty good.

It's not just sensitivity............

See Bill's post above.

You are limited by the speakers displacement. Adding more power will do NOTHING except damage the speakers.

Their transfer function sensitivity is 94dB, and what you'll actually get below 100Hz depends on the cabinet design.

The cabs are ported.. Bill what do you suggest I do? Buy 2 more cabs like I have and run 4 or go a different route?

Most are. But not all ported cabs are created equal. Most are far too small.

If you like how they sound I'd get one or two more, that would be the most economical route. Even one would help a lot, getting the mids closer to ear level so you can hear them.

The cabs are 8 OHMs each,,so if I get one more,,then I should hook up 2 in series (8+8=16 OHMS) then parallel those 2 with the other 8 OHM cab,,correct?
