Epi 410 (4 ohms) VS 2 x Epi112 (8 ohms each); both UL versions

Any thoughts on the difference in volume/oomph/cutting-through ability of the 410 vs 2-112s? I'm playing the 410 for moderately loud jazz/fusion/funk situations, and wondering if I'd still have the volume, etc, needed if I were to switch to 2x112s.

I'll be driving the cabs with a Little Mark 2.

It's hard to say *exactly*, but in general, a 410 will be somewhat louder than a 212.

I have at times switched between a Epifani 4 ohm UL1 410 and a pair of 8 ohm Epifani 210s (an NYC and a UL1). The 210 pair seem darker and louder than the 410, and work well on a tight stage when stacked vertically.

But, either rig is great.

I have heard/read somewhere (on TB?) that the Epi 212 is a monster, and would expect the pair of 112s would be comparable, it not better than a 212, and thus fine in place of a 410.

Anyone have direct experience with a UL-410 versus two UL-112s?

Yes. The two UL112's will give you about 75% of the absolute volume of a 4ohm 410UL. Depending on the Series (I or II), the 410UL will also have more midrange character, which makes it sound louder still.

I found both the 410UL and 112UL x 2 stack to lack a little bit of the low midrange punch/meat that I enjoy in my sound, and the low mid control on the LMII was voiced too high to plug that hole for me. Pure IMO there... the match-up with the LMII sounded great in an absolute sense.

IMO and IME.

Well I run a Traynor YBA 200-2 amp with 2 (1x12,8 ohms each) cabs Fender rumble with neo speakers and I find that I do not have enough volume on stage for a large hall. People tell me that I should switch to a 4x10 cab and I would be much louder. Would this be the case? Laurie. I guess I hi-jacked the thread,,sorry

While hard to predict across brands, in general yes.

I gigged a 4ohm 410UL for quite a few years, and never, ever ran out of headroom and volume in any room at any volume. With a 2 x 12 of the same brand, there were nights when I was buried.

However, all 112's are not the same, and I am talking about the typical mid driver loaded 112 commercial cabs, even the very expensive ones. There are the rare 2 x 112 or 212 cab that will keep up with a 410 in every way.

Edit: Your relatively low powered tube amp might be more of your problem than the cabs. If you do move to a different cab, make sure it is high SPL and relatively tightly voiced.

I got UL2 410 and i used to use LMII with it. like it was said before, sounds great especially in a midrange, didn't have 212 experience, but heard 112, for me its better off with 10's, a little bit more on attack than 12 at equal watting 100W. i guess its more of a philosophy of your own sounding.
