Epifani PS Vs. UL Series. The Same?

Sign in to disble this ad
Did a search and found nothing. Called a dealer and he was unaware of it.

I read somewhere here on TB that the Epifani PS series bass cabs have been altered to sound different. I am concerned about the PS 112 in particular. I bought one Brand New in January of 2010, almost a year ago and I want to purchase a new one to match up the one I already have.

Everyone seems to agree that it is better to match cabs by brand and design. Instead of a 112 and a 210 its better to have two 112's made by the same manufacturer.

Now can I find a PS112 that are the same?
Help?

From what I understand, the UL (ultralight) series are lighter and more hi-fi than the PS. I haven't heard either, so hopefully the Epifani crew can check in.

PS = Ceramic drivers
UL = Neodymium drivers

Components throughout are different and their voicing is not too similar. I haven't played them side by side but have read many a note online.
Check out the Epifani club here on the TB forums, quite a few users have posted their thoughts there.

Let me be clear.

I thought I read somewhere that the PS 112 has had its voice changed to sound more like the UL 112.

Thats my concern. I have a PS 112 and I want another, 'cept now I'm afraid I won't be able to find another one like it.

The first response was mainly towards your title. If the website is accurate (questionable), then yes, your cabs would sound different. I infer this because they are blatantly stating so.

I would call the company again and try to find out what really went on with this "change" and make clear your interest in duplicating the existing cab.

Or buy a used one, it will likely be not brand new, age wise.
