I have seen some ul2-112 cabs rated at 300W and some at 350W. Does anyone have an idea on why there is a difference in some cabs? Different drivers? I emailed Epifani but haven't heard back yet. Thanks for any info! |

I doubt that the 350 watt number came from Epifani and is most probably a typo, if not a hyped number by a retailer. |

Currently, the UL112 cab is listed as 300 watts on the site, and the UL212 is listed as 700 watts. I would be pretty sure they are using the same drivers.
My guess is that the Eminence Neo 12's that are used in the Series II cabs are '350 watt' drivers, and that change from the Series I B&C's didn't make it into the 112UL spec sheet on the website.
Of course, the maximum wattage spec is probably the most useless spec used by marketing departments, so it really doesn't matter much.
Nice cab... wide, modern, nice airy top end. |

Try diming a 300 watt head into a single 12 (unless it's a super 12 like a fEarful, Audiokinesis, etc) and you'll see.

In either case, it doesn't mean much. Even a good 12 will start farting at about half that power in the real world. Fortunately, most of us aren't using as much power as we think we are. When you strike the string, there is a quick little spike in power at the attack of the note...like a few milliseconds, the rest of the note ringing out doesn't use nearly as much power, like less than half.
That can be seen in the charts in the whole TC power debacle threads. |

| | Registered User Owner, Epifani | | | | | 300 watts is consistent and correct as on website. There have been small changes in production runs, so if you see a 350 watt label, it's not inaccurate - as Ken says, speaker wattage ratings are not a very useful spec, but most people want to see a number. We could have listed 400 watts and it wouldn't much affect the sound quality or real world power handling. Most bass heads will function with most bass cabinets - the question is how well. And that is beyond any single spec. |

I was really curious if there was a driver change at some point and if there was a sound difference between the cabs if there had been a change. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
