EQ + Compression!

Hello Bass players around the globe!

Im new here, this is my first treat.

I am in first recording project, and i am using the IK Ampeg SVT-4 Pro.

I will record the direct signal, but i will place the ampeg on an insert in my DAW, so to play with the hearing what the Ampeg is doing, with my prefered setting, while playing.

What i'd like to ask you, gentlemen is,

do you think it is better to NOT use the built-in compression and graphic Eq of the Ampeg?

Does anybody know, what exactly the built-in compression of the Ampeg does, since it only has one single knob to turn?

Would be nice to get some guidelines of yours?

I'm guessing you really mean you're using the IK Multimedia Ampeg SVX plugin?

Whether to use compression or EQ should always be based on whether it serves a useful purpose, or sounds good. And only you can decide those two things, based on the sounds and results you want to achieve.

I really like the IK Ampeg SVX Plugin, and I mainly use the SVT4Pro model in it. I think you're asking if you should use the Compression knob on the front of the 'amp' and/or the Graphic EQ on the front of the 'amp'?

I guess you just need to see what sounds good to you. For what it's worth, I use the EQ, but not the compression. I have other compression software that is more flexible and tweakable. I use Reaper, and the compressor that came free with it is very good, in my opinion.

+1 I personally would use the EQ and rather use one of the other software compressor plugins that will give you more control over the compression, but first try the compression knob and see if it sounds good to you, no point in playing with lots of settings if you can get the job done with one knob...
