EQ for outside gigs

Sign in to disble this ad
Now that summer is here, we're starting to play outside. I'm in a rock band and usually boost the high-mids and cut back a little on the bass and treble controls (to about 11:00) to cut through the mix. This works well inside most of the time, but I think the tone may be too thin for outside.

Any advice on adjustments I can make for outside gigs? I play an MIA Fender Jazz/Roto 66 swing bass strings with Ampeg SVT-7PRO and Ampeg Neo 410 cab.

If your tone is too thin, boost lows and/or low mids. Or dial those hi-mids back down.

Usually less EQ is needed outside because you're dealing with less room acoustic oddities.

I run flat outside...with PA support it won't make much difference.
As long as you can hear yourself!

It'll sound weaker/thinner outside. If you feel like boosting a bass knob, don'tl...boost low mids to thicken up the sound.
