I think you mean EARTH SOUND RESEARCH.

Based in new york.

Made copys. Literal, dead on copys.

Primarily of PEAVEY and FENDER.

they even had a line of amps called TWEEDs.

Needless to say, ESR was dead before 1982 due to lawsuits and the sort.

They also made some tuck and roll amps, ala KUSTOM out in Kansas.

The emphasis is on the RESEARCH bit... research of others designs.

They looked pretty cool, and did their own thing, even if that was rip off others. They do have a rather loyal fan base, but thats about all there is to know.

P.S. Not bad amps either. Most of them are still running, that, or are entirely and unsalvageably broken. (exaggeration, but you get my point)

What are you looking at mate? I'd love to see it!

I had a G2000 amp that was a dead on copy of a Fender. It was great. If it is priced reasonably I'd grab it!!!

ESR NEVER made a 200 watt head.

Tube, that is. They had a few 200w+ Peavey copies, but nothing tube.

It is more likely a copy of a 100w 4x6L6 Fender, with a Fender pre amp.

Agreed - I had a Super B-2000, and it was essentially a Bassman100 clone: (4) 6l6's, 100 watts... For me, it just didn't have enough clean headroom for my tastes - so I traded it off... I'm currently in the process of getting a Peavey AlphaBass, which is based on (6) 6l6's, and seems to be alot more versatile *to me*...

The AlphaBass has the same basic tone stack as the Bassman100, but also has a 9 band graphic EQ, an effects loop, a decent DI that's already post-EQ, a Preamp Out and Poweramp In circuit, and a few other things - for about the same money I was going to have into the B-2000... So, *for me* it was a no-brainer... It also seemed a bit louder than the B-2000, even though it's tubes were obviously whipped, and the B-2000 had all new tubes... I can completely re-tube the AlphaBass for well under $200, give it a good cleaning, and I *think* I'll have something that'll work out OK for me...

Cool story man!

I've personally got a 100w 4xEL34 Marshall Superbass clone, and it has never not done the trick for me.

So, I had originally assumed it was just a head, but after getting more info from the seller I found out it's a combo. It's from the early 70's, one 15 inch speaker, 50 watts. It's the BT-2000 traveler bass amp. Not exactly what I thought it was, but I'm still going to check it out tomorrow after work.

Get it. You could probably flip it if you didn't like it - and if you've never tried one, you might just like it.

The Earth amps i've seen havn't been that similar to fenders / marshalls, they seem to have a few unique features.

Probably true, but there was enough of a similarity for fender and peavey to sink ESR with lawsuits.

Most of the copys were of peaveys.

I've seen some that were quite similiar to Fenders, but never heard of ESR's too much like a Marshall. The ESR Superbass was closer to a fender than a Marshall superbass, at least in my experience.

http://cgi.ebay.com/EARTH-PEAVEY-STA...#ht_500wt_1182

looks an awful lot like a Peavey Mark.
