Euphonic Audio NL-210 - driver update

Sign in to disble this ad
A while back I e-bayed a second NL-210 for larger gigs. Not paying close attention to the pics in the ad I noticed too late it was a 4 Ohm cab.

It still sounded pretty good together with the other 8 Ohm, but the 4 Ohm getting twice as much power than the other one worried me a little.

So - I asked John Dong from EA if I can change the drivers out to make it an 8 Ohm cab.

With the brand newest versions of their drivers in stock John put an upgrade kit together that consisted of a new horn, two new woofers and new foam for the transmission line.

Put it all in and the sound is absolutely amazing. The old NL-210 was great (I have serial number A0001 of the old NL-210), the updated version absolutely phenomenal. Same round warm bass as the NL-210 but much more presence in the midrange. I cannot wait to try it out on a gig!

Don't miss out on a chance to hear this cab when it will be available in a few weeks.

I was going to post this same info a few days ago, but just didn't get around to it. I'll probably be buying my kit here in the next couple of weeks as it is a good little chunk of $$. Then my cab will be going up for sale after that. Good to see those guys were able to get a new speaker produced for the NL line of cabs though.

Got my kit delivered on Friday. Should finally have some time tonight to do the swap and see how these new woofers sound.

Update*

Had to send my NL210 back to John at EA for him to get it up and running at 100%. For some reason the tweeter in the cab did not work. Tried a couple of things with no luck. John is going to go over the cabinet in detail and make sure there is absolutely no other issues with it, do the necessary repairs and send it back to me, all with no charge to me. Sounds good! Hopefully I'll have it back in a week and be able to see how it sounds.

I've been playing the proto and A/Bing against the older nl210. I loved the old one, I REALLY love the new one. There might be some upgrades in cab finish available. Hoping to get one in tweed

Tweed would be cool!

How would you describe the tone differences between the older and the newer NL-210's, Mike?

I had two of the NL-210's and ran them with a variety of amps including the iAmp800 and boy, I can't imagine a bigger bottom end. They were huge already! IMO and IME, of course...

what is cool is that although the bottom is bigger, you do not loose any of the clarity that the NL210 is known for

Anybody have any experience with the CXL 112's vs the NL-210's.

I currently run the iAmp800 with a pair of CXL 112's (the older heaver cabinets) that John at EA got me set up with.

The CXL might be one of the most versatile cabs that EA has ever built. It takes EQ so well it is scary. The CXL is, I believe, a bit more of an aggressive sounding, a bit more mid forward than the 210.

Every day, I miss my CXL112's

+1 to Mike's comment. Great cabs (both). I actually used to mix and match EA cabs with the iAmp800 I owned for gigs a couple of years ago.

Hmmm...wonder what updates might be available for my NV-410. Great cab (thanks Tom!), but I'm always looking to upgrade.

How do the Nl 210's compare to the VL-210B's? I had two of them and they were freaking amazing. Why did I sell them? Mostly because I'm an idiot.

Well, I got my NL back from John this past Friday and got to give it a little test run this weekend. I'm not sure, but it seems like the box is a little bit lighter with these new drivers compared to the old. No complaints on that! It's been a while since I've played the cab so I can't accurately compare the new driver sound to the old, but it does have a good, clear sound to it.

Don't rub it in - I know it. I opened a LOT of eyes, ears, and sphincters with that rig
